1 EPITOME OF AN ENEMY By Ray Ritchie! on Tue May 09, 2017 10:54 am

In a debate when a straw man is set up to argue in an unbiblical way to refute a practical biblical principle. Usually a person who sets up the straw man argument realizes their points haven’t succeeded; they usually revert to slander and besmearing the legitimacy of the calling one’s life through declaring their opponent to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. They become polemic because they cannot see clearly the argument before them; false accusations and rage only give way to hatred. Not a spirit of loving correction but accusations of bias and inequity. To accuse someone with such venomous statements based upon false assumptions is just as horrific as the so-called crime with which they accuse.

Presumption is a sin; it is based upon assumption which is mostly preconceived and not truly thought through based upon facts. A person with truth is not at the mercy of a person with assumption or a straw man argument.

When contentious rhetoric enters the arena; often critical thinking which is objective goes out the door. In a debate upon an important issue especially when it comes to spiritually concerning practical biblical principles for living; polemics should have no part. The word of God exhorts us to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath, for the wrath of man does not work to the righteousness of God. Critical thinking or to think critically is an objective way to analyze facts to form a judgment. One must maintain a cool, calm, and collective mind and demeanor. In the midst of a biblical debate of opposing views; be quick to hear: allow what has been said to sink in; be slow to speak; calculate your words based upon factual information; be slow to wrath; don’t allow emotion to manage the debate.

Our ability to reason is a fundamental skill of rationality; it is the gift of God for man to be self-conscious, in the mind we share the attributes of perception, the faculty of realization, the ability of meditation, a scope of comprehension, and the process of correlation in rendering right from wrong.

However when we read the word of God its intention is enlightening the reader in the principles, precepts, and protocols of Christian living. It lays out for us in no uncertain terms what God’s will is for those who will live a life of holiness before him. As for me and my house I shall be a defender of the faith. Selah

Shalom, Agape, & Amen!
D.R. Ritchie
