1 Comfort - By Ray Ritchie on Sun May 29, 2016 8:32 am

How many times in life have we sought for different types of comfort? There truly is but one place to find true enduring comfort which brings contentment. But, too often we see it everywhere else. Sometimes in an effort to find it we think it will come in creature comforts of some of the essentials of life, until the stress of maintaining those essentials come into the picture, then those comforts quickly become discomforts in the pursuit of having and keeping them. Paul pens in these words as a testimony of what true comfort is; he writes “I have learned to be content in whatever state I am in”. His comfort was not derived by his abundance or lack of it, his comfort came through his relationship with God. Another servant of God penned this words by the same Spirit “what would it profit a man to gain the whole world; yet lose his soul, and what would he give in return”.

Brethren, many times it is the pursuit of creature comforts which cause us the most discomfort. Therefore let us be those whom pursuit the sweet presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We are assured if we put God first, and seek first the objectives of the Kingdom; he will supply all our needs accordingly. We can trust God to lead and to guide us by his comforting presence; he will show us the path of righteousness and spread out a table before us in the presence of our enemies. He will add to us those necessary things in life which sustain us; for he knows what we have need of before we ever request it. However, he does require us to ask and we will receive, he invokes us to seek and we shall find, and he exhorts us to keep knocking and the doors will open up for us.

Brethren, the enemy will whisper his doubts into our ears, he will fire his darts of disbelief, and he will confront our faith with forceful fears. However, the word of Yahweh commands us to stand having done all to stand in the power of his might never submitting to lies of the wicked; but to the contrary we are to adorn our minds with a helmet of salvation, in our hand clutch hard the sword of the Spirit, cover our hearts with a breastplate made of righteousness, having our feet dressed with the preemptive predisposition of peace, and our waist wrapped with the power of truth, and above all let us hold firmly the faith which shields us from every fiery dart which is thrust at us.

Brethren when we predetermine that God is in us, God is with us, and God is for us; we will walk in the assurance that peace that passes all understanding will comfort us even in the midst of the fieriest battle, in the times when we are waiting for supply, for reconciliation, for justification, for a miraculous healing, for a mighty deliverance. Our God will bring us into a place of contentment when we hear and heed him. Selah
